Pottery Exhibition

The art studio has been transformed into a classroom gallery with Kindergarten through Sixth Grade Pottery on display for one day only!

Kindergarteners formed and glazed their first "Pinch Pots".  "Nightlight Owls" with score and slip joins were made by the First Graders.  "Decorative Slab Leaves" demonstrate lots of textures by Second Grade Artists.  Third Graders crafted "Traditional Bowls" using their knee to form them.  "Red Clay Coil Pots" were carefully constructed by Fourth Graders.  The Fifth Grade had the challenge of creating a "Clay Set" using personal ideas for inspiration.  While Sixth Grade modeled "Clay Masks" after artifacts researched from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Come enjoy the beauty, craftsmanship and wonderful continuum of learning students demonstrate with their hand made earth clay creations.

Luminary Lantern Parade

Twas the night before River of Light, and all thru the art room
Not a lantern was glowing, not even the moon.
The luminaries were hanging from the ceiling with care
in hopes that the students would soon be there.
Tea lights were dangling all snug in zip bags
with visions of brightness and shadows moving in zigs and zags.
Mrs. LeCours had just removed her smock for the day,
and all the children went off to their homes to rest and play
when all of a sudden the lights blinked on one by one.
Was it magic or lack of sleep, the classroom was as bright as the sun.
Anticipating the joy of celebratory parade
the structures created were all hand made.
So with a full heart and kind smile come see
a lantern parade performed by the Hardwick Elementary community.

Doing, Being, Creating!

Art making is an ongoing process of self discovery.  The medium of earth clay is a test of focusing the senses and utilizing the hands as the most significant technology we have to create. A way to practice and reinvent or disconnect and deepen with unlimited possibilities for "happy accidents" and beautiful transformations.  In a world filled with many distractions the act of creating for joy and learning is a warm, welcome light that shines within us all when nurtured.  Look for the school wide Pottery Show at the end of the month.
